Take your technical skills to the next level. Building on the Foundation Course, this 2-day intensive delves into the professional side of the Japanese tea industry. You will explore regional variations, advanced production methods, and the nuances of tea cultivars.

Advanced Mastery:

  • Regional Exploration: Understand how terroir and climate in regions like Shizuoka, Uji, and Kagoshima influence the final cup.
  • Cultivar Identification: Dive deeper into the characteristics of specific tea cultivars beyond Yabukita.
  • Professional Evaluation: Refine your sensory skills by evaluating more complex teas, including Kabusecha, Tamaryokucha, and Wakoucha.
  • Industry Insights: Learn about the current landscape of the Japanese tea industry, from auction systems to modern export trends.

Your registration includes:

  • 8 Hours of Instruction: Covering advanced theory and practical tasting over two days.
  • Curated Tastings: Professional evaluation of high-grade, rare, and lesser-known Japanese teas.
  • GJTea Handbook & Presentation: A printed guide with reading references and tasting sheets. Presentations will be shared in PDF format.
  • Hands-on Practice: Use of professional tea evaluation tools and traditional teaware during class sessions.
  • Global Japanese Tea Association Certificate: Awarded upon successful completion and passing of the intermediate exam.

Course Details

DATE: September 12 & 13, 2026

TIME: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, including a 30-minute break. Bringing your lunch is recommended.

LOCATION: 2250 Main Street, Vancouver

FEES: $575 + Tax

NOTE: To qualify for the certificate, students must attend both days and achieve a passing grade on the exam. The examination will take place on the second day. A class party will be organized so students can pick up their certificates, which are issued and sent from Kyoto.

The course group is limited to ensure an interactive and personable learning experience.

Course Policy

Due to the curated nature of the materials, all fees are non-refundable once enrollment is confirmed. Please ensure that all registration information is accurate prior to booking.

The course may be cancelled/rescheduled if the minimum number of participants is not met. In this case, all registered participants will receive a full refund.

After the course has commenced, only the registered participant may attend. Attendance by substitutes is not permitted.

Photography, videography, and audio recording may take place during classes and related activities for purposes including, but not limited to, internal review, promotional materials, and documentation. If you do not consent to being recorded, please notify staff at the start of the course.
